"Y" and "Z" exist for use in Greek loanwords.
Seeing as I'm already on this rant, the letters J, K, W, X, and Y are only present in loanwords for Italian. "X" was removed retroactively because it's actually a fake representation of the ancient Greek "X", or "chi". "Y", or upsilon, is also removed because it is Greek, making the sound "ooh". So "AEGYPTVS" (or Egypt) is actually "Eggooptūs" to an English user! Fun!
