Anonymous1: They're android "clones" of the main character, Alita/Gally. After the system controlling them shut down, GR-6, renaming her/himself Sechs hunted down the other 8 remaining units to validate her own existence. S/he at some point fought the the "twins" here, Elf and Zwölf, costing her eye. Sechs eventually transfers to a powerful male body while the twins prefer to stay incredibly feminine, individuality and all that.
