It's an old show with a modern remake, and there are adult artists working today that never saw the original. The original was on a shoestring-budget, so the animation was crap, relative today's standards, which helps ensure that anyone who didn't see it when it was being made won't see it now. Because of the budget, the character design is as unexpressive as the toys the cartoon was designed to sell; her face says it all in the image above. The supporting cast is a factor too. The old series doesn't have much dynamism between the characters so their interactions are less interesting.
