Anonymous6: @Anonymous: I'm going to explain this bluntly why people are constantly getting pissed off about the skin color of Nessa in fan art. In the game she's obviously a dark skinned character, she isn't a player controlled character that could change skin tone, she is solely dark skinned. So when people see artists trying to do unusual tans, lightening the skin for dynamic lighting that doesn't really impress anyone, people get pissed off, as dark skin isn't looked at as a form of beauty in most parts of the world. People bleaching there skin, people not dating dark skinned people, dark skinned people being looked down upon in certain cultures. So when artists do shit like this, and make the character look borderline white but not all the way white, it seems as a sign of colorism in the sense that lighter skin is more attractive, when in the case for this character, it definitely isn't.

So I find it bullshit that people feel like their art shouldn't get criticism, or that there's nothing wrong, when something clearly is. Peace cannot happen without a war raging before it. So people are fighting back against the common mentality that lighter is better. So yeah, they're free to draw whatever they want, but they are not free from the consequences of doing so. They're always going to get hassled for it because obviously some people don't like it. Boo fucking hoo

BOTH sides have the right to cry about it for eternity, until they can come up with a resolve.
