Anonymous3: There's always only one (rarely two) starters in each season I don't hate.
1st gen. Charmander
2nd gen. I liked all three
3rd gen. I hated all of them, though Blaziken was cool.
4th gen. I hated all of them, though Empoleon was ok.
5th gen. Tsutaja is decent.

Difficult to say without seeing the evolutions, but these seem to have more promise than the 3rd and 4th generation starters.
