Sintime: Because probably G1 wasn't being a forced fad like the current one is, and thus has less bandwagon followers who aren't even really fans of it.
deathstriker: Thats what I love in it, well one of things, also the balance between ponies and non-ponies alike.
And you are right Sintime, G4 fans act really sheepish at times.
deathstriker: Truth to be told Sintime, all MLP franchice is girly shit. Every single one of it. Never stopped me from liking and still like the G1* though. But I never tried to justify it in any other way. Liked it for what it was.
*Cant be certain this is not just nostalgia to be honest.
Anonymous6(1): FiM was supposed to be enjoyable for all ages, like old cartoons, and they succeeded with that. Don't hate us bronies cuz the old generations were just 20mins long advertisement aimed at 5 yo girls, to sell plastic ponies, no story, no character development, just girly shit.
deathstriker: We dont hate "you" bronies because the other generations of the show were not as succesfull well not me personally.
I only have a problem that while you are treating the show and franchise as a reigion on the outside but from the inside you just treat it like a buffet of some sorts.
Taking only the aspects you like and ignoring or worse trying to conceal or make the parts that you as well as no one likes appear different. You should just say you like the show and be done with it.
Krawczyk: deathstriker deliverin' death strikes up and down this mutha yo!
*cough* I mean, yea, QFTQFTQFTQFTQFT alla it
Also in case you haven't noticed only Fluttershy gets any development because she's got some zany split personality thing going on, threaten the other ponies and she suddenly turns into Luffy.
_not_anonymous: @Sintime: "He considers a show that aimed at 6 year old girls 'non-girly shit'"
Have you ever even read what Lauren Faust said when designing the show? She always intended to take the stereotypes of girls enjoying pink frilly mindless ideals (you know, everything G1 represented) and breaking them into a million pieces. And she did that masterfully by creating FiM, an extremely well-balanced show that appeals to all ages and both genders.
@LuxXTenebris: "Oh god... bronies shut up. *facepalms* The villains of G1 made 80s MLP at least a thousand times more superior to G4."
Oh really? Let's do a quick checklist of some of the stupider villains of G1...
- a cat furry that drinks a completely unexplained potion that gives her random powers depending on whatever comic book the writers happened to be reading at the time
- a giant pile of goo (dafuq)
- a cloud man that got himself arrested (lol)
- some penguin king
- a bunch of other random villains that cross the line from "original" territory and leap several miles into "oh god stop already" territory
The ONLY decent villain from G1 was Tirek.
Compared to G4 villains, of which we've only had four major ones thus far and all of which have been superior, one of which is John de fucking Lancie. Have fun trying to compare to that.
@deathstriker: "Thats what I love in it, well one of things, also the balance between ponies and non-ponies alike."
What 'balance'? There was NO continuity between non-pony races except the Witches (seen only TWICE), the Grundles (again, only seen, like, two or three times) and the Moochick (see Grundles). FiM actually brings back races and even villains from previous episodes and seasons (gryphons, dragons, parasprites, Nightmare Moon, Trixie, etc).
The G1 writers, by contrast, invented new races on a fucking whim and then abandoned them in the dust and hoped everyone would forget about them (I particularly love how they used goblins in The Magic Coins, then they used a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and unexplained type of goblins in The Golden Horseshoes. What was that about 'balance' again?).
