The reason behind their actions: they were getting threats from various governments from South America and Europe threatening to bar Rule34 from their countries ISP for hosting such inappropriate content. So being the pussies like they are they caved and cleaned house. Then made new rules aka BIG RED FONT ON TOP OF THE SITE "UNDERAGE RULES".

Titanium, the original OG admin of the site joked that this might happen one day. I remember the April Fool's that all the loli was deleted, now only to find it actually happened years later. He stepped down knowing this would happen and didn't want to be part of it.
It's funny how this site became too big for itself. I guess nothing lasts forever.
