Anonymous3: Yeah clearly changing all the iconic characters into women and minorities with shitty stories and plots, and making most bad guys white males was a really successful move by Marvel and Bendis, just look at all those millions of urban demographics and girls that are just clamoring to buy the latest issues....what? you mean Marvels latest comics series are selling abysmally, and DC comics has taken the number one spot with its Rebirth Silver Age Return? Gee, who would have guessed telling all of your loyal traditional customers that they are racist misogynist scumbags just for being who they are would be so bad for business?
Oh well, now go back to giving us all your money, you racists, homophobic, sexist, cis pigs! #ImWithHer
Anonymous4(1): I'm not saying we can't have minorities I'm just saying not every white character needs to be replaced.
I'm actually ok with the idea of Sam Wilson becoming Captain America because Old Cap knew him and it makes sense but just replacing every white character with minorities is fucking stupid bullshit
Freezer: @Anonymous: Yeah... This isn't even the second time someone who wasn't Tony Stark was Iron Man. Hell, it's not even the first time he's been "replaced" by a black person. And, oh yeah. Steve Rogers didn't go away. Neither did Tony Stark. Or Peter Parker. Or any of the other characters you're whining about so shut the entire fuck up, you butthurt cretin.
tyciol: I think the problem is that instead of building characters from the ground up with entirely new identities (ie Falcon, Black Panther, Luke Cage) they're just appropriating existing ones.
Albeit: I don't know if there was as much outrage in DC when Wally took over for Barry or Dick took over for Bruce, but in those cases they spent years as Kid Flash / Robin paying their dues to earn the right to take over.
In that respect, it doesn't bother me that Miss Marvel (Carol Danvers) took over as Captain Marvel. She paid her dues under a unique name.
The problem is people just jumping into the main roles without doing time as a sidekick first. They should have to be mentored by the original hero to earn the right to use the name.
Anon4 is also right, Falcon's a good example, he spent years working with Cap earning the right to take the place.
Riri isn't even a problem if she goes by Ironheart. Has she even been called Iron "Man" in any issues yet?
*doesn't know anything about Moongirl but anything with 'girl' in it is basically a sidekick role so it's okay to jump into*
As for Ms. Marvel, personally I think Kamala should have spent some time as "Marvelette" or something along those lines. She seems to young to jump into the 'Miss' role. That's something she could have eventually earned while spending time under a teen sidekick identity.
Freezer: @Anonymous: Lets break down how utterly utterly wrong you are. For Oct. 2016, the latest month with full sales figures, DC had five of the top 10. They're all Batman books, including Dark Knight III: Again? Really? The top book is Boom!'s Big Trouble in Little China/Escape From New York crossover. The next two? Champions #1 (Chock full of those minority legacy character "real" comics fans hate) and Dr. Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme #1.
In the top 20, the only DC titles that aren't Batman books are Justice League 8 and 9 and Flash 8.
What do the sales records tell us? Comic readers like Batman. But don't let little things like hard data stop you from believing attractive and successful Africans ruin everything (especially comics). You do you, Boo.
tyciol: Freezer I'm not sure how showing that Batman is the top-selling comic, putting DC on top, shows that attractive and successful Africans aren't ruining Marvel?
