LewdnCrude: No, no they really aren't. Bees are divided into castes; the females are the queen (produces young) and the workers (they work, ha). The males are the drones, and they breed with young queens to set up new hives, after which they die (or get thrown out to starve if they don't succeed in mating).

Most media depicts 'drone' as simply a disposable mook of sorts, but in entemology (study of insects), the term refers to the males of eusocial species like bees and ants.
