Anonymous1: Classic Gwen. I always preferred her over MJ but I think the line from Bane describes her best.

No one cared who I was until I put on the mask.

Goodwin: @Anonymous: If we go by this logic, Aunt May is the best waifu material for Peter Parker.
MJ has been proving she's THE girl since 80s. Gwen, on the other hand, cheated on Spidey with Norman fucking Osborn in now defunct canon.

Anonymous2(1): @Goodwin: Apparently the original idea for the story was that Gwen was pregnant with Peter’s kids but left without telling him, gave birth to them and gave them away because she wasn’t ready. That was supposed to be her big secret. The events were supposed to eventually result in the revelation that the supposed Goblin kids DNA match with Spidey. Overall, I can’t say the story was good but it was changed to the Gwen cheating angle because the people in charge of Marvel at the time believed that Peter having kids would ‘age’ him and make him harder to relate to younger readers. A similar kind of thought process is why MJ’s pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage and the whole One More Day debacle.

I don’t really blame Gwen for that crap story. I think it’s clear to everyone that Marvel and specifically the people who made, tweaked and green lit the thing were at fault. Spider-Man was my favourite superhero growing up but it’s stuff like this that just makes it hard to still root for and follow the guy. You honestly have no idea how cathartic it was for me to watch Into the Spiderverse and see this washed up, underachieving, stuck in arrested development loser Peter Parker. It was like a perfect critique in how the character is being handled and treated over the years. He’s just stuck doing the same thing and any headway in life he makes like marriage or his own company won’t last and he’ll be to back square one before long not learning from the experience or mistakes he made.

Sorry about the ramble but seeing Spidey’s inability to get his shit together has been bugging me since I can remember.

Goodwin: @Anonymous: A lot of words for simple "writers dun fucked up again". And yes, I as well find very hard to forget the injustice that OMD was.
But this doesn't change the fact that for the lot of us Gwen Stacy was like a memorabilia your grandma had put in the living room: certainly pretty to look at and reminisce, but utterly useless and irrelevant for everything mundane. They even failed to deliver closure in the recent "resurrection" storyline.
