In the episode Pretty Pretty dresses he , yes him the homophobic , uptight , conservative macho Hank Hill is willing to go in drag and roleplay as Lenore to help his friend come back to his senses. Idiots like Bill and Dale NEED Hank and he needs them because though he can't say it unless he's under extreme duress he loves his pals and they've been with him since they were boys. He loves Bobby in spite of boying annoyed with his silliness and he adores Peggy and he does care about Luanne he just has a very hard time showing it because he's so damn awkward and prudish.
Lastly while it's probably true he and Peggy are the ones who got Luanne into religion you need to remember that it was her own stupidity that made her take things too far. Hank hated people like the ultra bitch psycho religious freak Juni Harper but Luanne ate up her lies and crazy twisted bullshit as if she was a kid locked in a candy store overnight. Hank is religious but he's not toxic religious like Juni Harper. What sets Hank apart from someone truly controlling and evil like Juni Harper is Hank able to look past his preconceived notions and small minded views at times and do what needs to be done to help the underdog or to look out for his friends and family and he's able to admit when he's been wrong and grow as a person.
