Gannondorf: @Anonymous: Ok. And now I'm imagining removing her head, slowly, using my gigantic sword. And now I'm mounting it and sending it to Link's tiny little shack.
Lapp: @Gannondorf: I have a full collection of Lovecraft's work, but I prefer his Dunsanian pieces (i.e. influenced by Lord Dunsany) to his Cthulhu-mythos pieces. My favourite, in particular, is Celephaïs; towards the short story's beginning (about 3 paragraphs in) is a short bit concerning te ability to freely see and dream, an ability that men lose with their hildhood. Needless to say, it's the single greatest piece of writing I've seen in my life.
Oh, and I'd prefer her head to remain attached...I'm sure we have a couple warehouses full of the severed heads of furries at this point, enough for you bury Link's backwoods shack several times over.
Lapp: @Gannondorf: I was trying to think of something I could do to persuade the Gerudo King, this is whet I came up with:
- I'll probably start crying if you kill her, and before I'm beheaded as a nuisance, some tears may or may not get on your clothes. While the water would evaporate in minutes, your clothes would be forever soiled with peasant tears. Or until you go back to your stronghold and change.
Lapp: @Gannondorf: It's not a kingdom, it's an Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune. Also, most "citizens" are actually inanimate objects, and appropriately lack gender. However, I'll send you our Director of Bi-Weekly Border-War Massacres, Rocky.
Lapp: @Lapp: Sorry, looks like Rocky is away on business in Syria. I'll get the Chairman of our Poverty-Ignorance Council instead. (We pride ourselves on how efficiently we ignore our lower-class, while still publishing propaganda solely for the purpose of letting them know we're ignoring them.)
Dude, Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath. Its epic, and I love the message. Though I actually am more partial to The Shadow Over Innsmouth and At the Mountains of Madness. You read much Arthur Clarke? Charnel God and Dark Eidolon for Great Justice.
Lapp: @Hierolocc: I mean, his Cthulhu-mythos is better work than most people could ever dream of, but I've always been remarkably fond of Celephaïs. I've read his full and unabridged works, as well as quite a few of his famous letters out of curiosity...
And no, I'm about a year into speaking English (even though I read all of Lovecraft's works in English), so I'm still working on more modern English literature (1900+) as I become more acquainted with the language. I'll keep an eye out for his work, though!
Huh, I guess I thought cele was part of the Mythosian universe. Its mentioned in DQoUK, which features Nyarlathotep and the Outer Gods. But I agree with your Thoughts on it; it is a beautiful story.
And if you ever are looking to get into Clarke's works, here's a link to an archive of most of his works: http://www.eldritchdark.com/writings/short-stories/
BrickShitHouse: This is actually more disturbing to me than any of the guro on this site (but then again, I'm blunted when it comes to violence), fuck, the long, gross-ass (jointed?) tongue takes the fucking cake, not even H.R Geiger has grossed me out this much.
Congratulations.
